About Us

Cave Players is a drama group based in North and South Cave, East Yorkshire- hence the name, although you don t have to be from the Cave area to join us as we have members from across all the neighbouring villages and even further afield.

Born in 1986, Cave Players has been putting on shows for over 30 years. We rehearse in South Cave at the WI hall; however, performances are predominantly in North Cave at the Village Hall. As was the case in 1986, our aim is to provide entertainment to both members, and the public. We are not luvvies and darlings but enjoy what we do and like to think we do it quite well.

Starting out as a small group, Cave Players has come a long way. We still have the involvement of some of our founder members, and we also have adult members who have returned, having been involved as children. We are a friendly group who welcome new members as part of the family.

Our flagship performance is our Pantomime, held in the last week of January. We write all our own material, and have put on a wide array of Pantomimes, ranging from the traditional Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White and Jack and the Beanstalk, to the less convention titles such as the Kings New Clothes, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Raiders of the Lost Pyramid, and Happily Ever After.

Through the rest of the year, we also put on a performance in May, which is often a review show with a mixture of music, and comedy sketches. This is often themed according to key anniversaries of the year. Last year, in commemoration of the centenary of Armistice, we put on a special performance called Never Forgotten: An Opportunity Knocks which was a commemoration of North and South Cave s fallen, but also tied in the anniversary of the formation of music sensation, The Beatles.

We also put on numerous other small events, such as murder mysteries at various venues including Rowley Manor. These unscripted shows have become a huge success, relying on the improvisation of the actors to tell the who-dunnit story.

Having been putting on shows for so many years, we have a wide range of costumes available, as well as a wide range of pantomime scripts, which can be made available to other groups. In need of a Pantomime Camel, Horse or Cow. Or you need an Ugly Sister, Buttons or a Captain. Then get in touch.

So, if you have ever thought it would be fun to join a drama group but have been put off because you think you have to be a great actor, think again! We have fun and we believe that enthusiasm plays a big part in talent. We don t expect you to be Dame Judi Dench or Benedict Cumberbatch, just someone who is a little extrovert and doesn t mind getting up on stage and making a fool of themselves if necessary!

If treading the boards isn t your thing, then there is more to us than that. We also need members who are willing to do all the other things that go to make a successful performance; prompting, makeup, costumes, stage and scenery and of course the most important making the tea!
