Auditions

We hope you enjoyed our script read through last night and are now looking forward to auditions on Sunday 14th September.

Just a bit of info ahead so you know what to expect:

Time/Place:
Open auditions will take place between 2-4pm on Sunday 14th September at the South Cave WI. Please arrive by 1.45pm as Eleanor will be leading us in some warm ups beforehand.

We are asking current members to put their names down ahead of time for all parts they are interested in to help us streamline the process, but we will adapt if we have new prospective members turn up. In case you’ve forgotten already, the sign up sheet with details from everyone who signed up last night is available on Backstage.

Casting Panel:
The casting panel for this year will be Sharon as Director, Kerry as Co-Director/Production Manager/Chief Dogsbody, Clive as Musical Director and Neil as Co-Writer. Members of the casting panel will not be voting on any roles for which they audition.

Audition Pieces:
If you attended last night, you will have seen the character summaries and the sign up sheet. For anyone who wasn’t able to attend, character summaries and audition pieces are available on Backstage. There will be some printed versions available on the day but you are welcome to print your own copy off in advance. If you have any questions about a role, feel free to contact one of the casting panel.

If you are not yet a member and would like to see the audition pieces ahead of time, please email secretary@caveplayers.co.uk.

Remember you may also be asked to sing as part of your audition – especially if you want to audition for a principal role. Snow White and Prince Rupert will both be asked to sing as part of their audition.

Running Order:
This will depend on how many people we have auditioning for which roles, which is why we are asking you to let us know ahead of time. We have already had an incredible amount of interest, and we are in the process of preparing an audition schedule on this basis. If you are not sure if you want to audition, please put your name down anyway – you can always change your mind!

There are 6 Misfit roles and these will be popular. As such, anyone auditioning for the Misfits will be randomly allocated a role on the day and may be cast in a different role to the one they have auditioned as. We will be casting an adult as Major, and asking them to get a chaperone licence.

As ever, the more roles people put their name down for, the more options we have when casting. We need a cast which will work as a whole, and if someone auditions brilliantly but we have no-one to cast alongside them, it is very disappointing all round.

Etiquette:
Most of you are old hats at auditions, but for anyone who isn’t sure or hasn’t attended before:
* We hold open auditions. Anyone is welcome to attend, but please be advised that we currently have a waiting list for new Junior members (under 18).
* Everyone is invited to attend and support for the entirety of the audition process, but are also welcome to leave after they have finished their audition.
* Please be ready when you are called for your audition. We will currently be hearing at least 48 auditions!!
* Whilst auditions are taking place, we expect participants to be respectful. This means watching quietly unless appropriately commenting upon the performance (eg audience participation). The most popular role currently has 13 contenders – you will all know that scene by heart by the end of Sunday!

Cast List:
We anticipate being in a position to publish the cast list by 7.30pm on Monday 15th September. If we finalise it sooner, then we will publish sooner. It will be put on the Members’ WhatsApp and Backstage.
